what was the civil war?
The Civil War was the war fought by Americans, whom at the time had split into two sides: the Union and the Confederacy. Growing disputes between the Northern and Southern states caused the US to split into its two different sides, mainly driven by the issue of slavery. It becomes to be known as the deadliest war in American history, even worse than WWII. About 620,000 people lost their lives in the war, which was roughly 2% of the population at the time. The war begins at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12th, 1861, and ends in Texas on April 9th, 1865 after the surrender of Confederate general Robert E. Lee to Union general Ulysses S. Grant.
